The Sabbath Day Change

Letter to the Editor, Press and Banner, Abbeville, SC, Aug. 19th, 2020

Thank you to the Press and Banner for upholding the spirit of free speech and 1st amendment rights. For the sincere Bible believers out there, you know that we are in that season that Paul writes about in 1 Thessalonians 5:1-4. That season being the Day of YaHuWaH(God, The Lord) coming as a thief in the night.

We are told specifically in Luke 4:6 that this world is Satan’s kingdom, as well as in John 16:11, John 12:31, and 2 Corinthians 4:4. Satan’s kingdom is now coming into its fullness and the great and terrible Day of YaHuWaH is on the horizon. We are living in the last days. Considering this, one should earnestly begin to seek YaHuWaH, as it reads in Isaiah 55:6 and Zephaniah 2:3, while there is time and space for repentance. The way to do this is by living in accordance with His Word.

We are first introduced to the sanctification of the Sabbath day in Genesis 2:2-3, during Creation week. In addition to Exodus Ch. 20, where the ten commandments are given, we are told the importance of the matter of the Sabbath day in Exodus 31:13-17, Isaiah 56:1-6, Jeremiah 17:21-27, and Ezekiel 20:12, 20. In these verses in Ezekiel, we are told that He gave His Sabbaths to His people specifically to be a sign between Him and His people. We are also told in Deuteronomy 6:6-8 and Deuteronomy 11:18 that for those guarding His commandments that they are marked, as a sign, as frontlets between their eyes and on their hand. In other words, in their foreheads and on their hand are they marked for those in covenant with Him by guarding His laws, statutes, and commandments.

We know from the Garden of Eden that the serpent was the most subtle beast of the field and caused Adam and Eve to transgress YahuWaH’s command by subtle, simple suggestion. The Sabbath day was changed in the fourth century and it is now entirely normal for our culture to honor Sunday as if it were the Sabbath day. This was done by Roman emperor Constantine and has resulted in the living of life outside of the Almighty’s Way. Psalm 89:34 and Malachi 3:6 tells us He does not change and that He will not change His covenant. As well, Hebrews 13:8 tells us Yahushua(Jesus) is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The point being, our Father and our Messiah did not sanctify the change of the Sabbath day. The true Biblical Sabbath day is Friday sundown to Saturday sundown. Leviticus 23:32 and Genesis ch. 1 tells us a Biblical day is from evening/sundown to evening/sundown.

Now, consider some of these statements by representatives of the Roman church:

“For example, nowhere in the Bible do we find that Christ or the Apostles ordered that the Sabbath be changed from Saturday to Sunday. We have the commandment of God given to Moses to keep holy the Sabbath day, that is the seventh day of the week, Saturday. Today most christians keep Sunday because it has been revealed to us by the Roman Catholic church outside the Bible.”

Catholic Virginian Oct. 3, 1947 article “To Tell You the Truth”

“Sunday is our mark of authority…the church is above the Bible, and transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact.”

The Catholic Record of London, Ontario, Canada, Sept. 1, 1923

“Of course the Catholic church claims that the change(Saturday Sabbath to Sunday) was her act…And the act is a mark of her ecclesiastical authority in religious things.”

C. F. Thomas, chancellor of Cardinal Gibbons, in answer to a letter regarding the change of the Sabbath, Nov. 11, 1895

Considering these statements, also consider that the characteristics of the group who does not receive the mark of the beast in Revelation 14:12 are those who: guard the commandments of YaHuWaH(God) and have the faith of Yahushua(Jesus). This is something to consider and ponder.
