In that time he served as head of the Memphis office from 1973-1975, head of the Dallas office from 1975-1977, and head of the Los Angeles office from 1977 until his retirement. Shortly after his retirement, Gunderson set up his own private investigation firm and was asked to investigate the Jeffrey R. MacDonald case.
