Continue readingIn 1872, a group of San Francisco artists, writers, and lawyers began to gather in the California redwood forests of Sonoma County. This was known as the Bohemian Club where these folks would gather in their love of nature and the arts. Authors Mark Twain and Jack London were early members. It was decided among this group to expand the Bohemian Club to include the wealthy and well connected. Bohemian Club quickly expanded and morphed into an elite institution, pushing out the original elements living a “bohemian” lifestyle. It has always been a men only club.
